A Fleamarket Guide for Berlin

A Fleamarket Guide for Berlin

Berlin is the capital city of flea markets and visiting these iconic institutions is a great way of spending a couple of hours of your weekend (singles watch out: there is a strong possibility of starting a flirt with a handsome stranger at the innumerous stalls) but as I walk along the Spree towards my first destination, the Arena Indoor Flea Market, feelings of smallness start to unsettle. In fact, I could not have chosen a worse day to venture out into flea markets – it is freezing cold, bloody foggy and there is mud everywhere due to the melting snow and I cannot stop thinking to myself that only a strike of luck will prevent me from slipping and falling into the river. It would not be the first time…

A Guide to Berlin Bike Shops

A Guide to Berlin Bike Shops

photo: Standert Bicycles Pop Up Week

A lot of things that are popular in Berlin are fun, but some of them are probably not the kind of thing your doctor would advise you to do. With one exception. We love biking! Although the basic biking know-how in Berlin is comprised not only of beautiful routes, nice places to hang out with fellow riders, but also a bunch of rules to keep your bike safe from being stolen, it’s the favorite pastime for a lot of us. With the Berliner Fahrradschau coming up this weekend, we wanted to give you a little heads-up in terms of the great bike shops that continue to promote this healthy hobby all year round. Read on…

The Many Wonders of Warschauer Straße

The Many Wonders of Warschauer Straße

Before we all buckle up for this little joyride, let me start with a disclaimer: the selection of places below is a very subjective one, intending to highlight the wide range of leisure options available around Warschauer Strasse, but even more so to convey some of its unique spirit and direct your attention at a few lesser-known spots. Therefore, I am going to include some of the more or less immediate vicinity, fully aware of the fact that Schlesi is in Kreuzberg, and leave off some distinguished venues like Berghain, since they’re doing a great job speaking (raving?) for themselves. A Sweet Tooth Guide to Berlin

A Sweet Tooth Guide to Berlin

photo: Brammibal’s Donuts

I’ve always had a sweet tooth. Ever since I was a little kid hanging in my parents’ grocery shop, I’d covertly fill up my pockets with candy. Not much changed. I mean, luckily I started financing the addiction on my own and the only thing I may occasionally steal is the show, but, despite strong human competition, my love affair with confectionery is still at the top of my most toxic relationships list. Basically, when I first saw the phrase “death by chocolate”, I felt like that’s what my gravestone is going to read. If you’re like me, or want to really impress a boy or girl with a tendency for sweet self-indulgence (there are many of us around here!), take them to one of those places:

A Healthy Breakfast & Lunch Guide for Berlin

A Healthy Breakfast & Lunch Guide for Berlin

My Goodness

Scientists say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We don’t really care, if that is true, because we basically love to eat all day long. Since we feel like we might not be the only ones feeling like this, we have collected some of the most exciting places that serve you extra-healthy breakfast and lunch.

Berlin 24/7: A Guide for Night Owls

Berlin 24/7: A Guide for Night Owls

photo: all.x

Having studied at another culturally forgettable -yet very beautiful in the summer – German town, I always thought that the main difference between living in the capital and living in a place, where breathing large amounts of non-polluted air almost didn’t feel right, was the night life. What differentiates Berlin from other smaller cities is not just its numerous wild parties, where the right drug combination can bring you to euphoric levels of happiness despite the insufferably monotonous beats and pull you into a life crisis the next day, while wondering how you managed to look like you already had a divorce and a few heart-attacks. Luckily, Berlin is so much more than that.

The main difference lies in the possibilities awaiting when the sunlight starts to dim and the city puts on a new outfit, less fancy but always stylish; not the let’s-have-a-reunion-at-the-cemetery-kind, but in a far more original way.

Blame it on your insomnia, your constantly unsatisfied desire to explore as many as layers of this city as possible, your biological needs, or simply your Fear Of Missing Out, Berlin is here to keep you company through the sleepless nights, when doing anything other than “sleeping, because I am working tomorrow” could feel just a little bit abnormal; to be your remedy. Berlin from every Angle – A 360° Video with Notes of Berlin

Berlin from every Angle – A 360° Video with Notes of Berlin

No other city has so much diversity like Berlin. From the chic and decadent Charlottenburg West to the rough Neukölln South, the boho Friedrichshain East and the wild Wedding North the city is a wild S-Bahn ride through extreme contrasts.

But we are not the only ones who heart the opposites and contradictions of this beautiful city.  Since several years, Joab from Notes of Berlin hunts for the funniest notes or analog messages hanging around town. We know each other for a while and share frequently our thoughts on work and blogging. But until now we never had the chance to work on a joined project even though we are both part of Blogfabrik.

The S-Bahn Berlin asked if they could feature both of us while exploring our favorite spots in Berlin. As part of their #Washastduvor project several bloggers and storytellers were asked to show their personal side of Berlin. On their website you can explore all kinds of useful Berlin-related articles. We used this project as an opportunity not only to have a crazy experience with the new film technology of 360° videos but also to dive into some serious conversations about urban development and how the city should change from our perspective. The final results will go online tomorrow on our Facebook page. But after the jump, you can already watch one short excerpt of the movie.
