This Friday Backyard hosts one of its infamous Dinner Clubs starting this Friday with a special German edition. The ones who have participated in the first evenings know that they are very special and comfy and a good chance to meet new people and dine together with the Backyard team. Take your chance and make your reservation quickly ( email@example.com ), cause there is limited capacity to ensure the family – like atmosphere of the Backyard dinner nights. More on the dinner and what’s the menu after the jump.
On the occasion of tomorrow’s 3rd Anniversary of the Backyard (home to Suz’ Last Days parties) I was looking for a nice title photo for the event guide and stumbled across this photo set I made at the first anniversary party 2 years ago which apparently I never published on the blog, don’t know why. Well, but better late than never I would say and today is a good day to look back in anticipation for tomorrow! Happy Birthday! Enjoy!
It is impossible to take the S-Bahn or the bus in Berlin without noticing the graffitis of Kreuzberg grafitti crew THC. You might have not actively noticed if you’re not into graffiti art, but their works and the three letters T H C are everywhere, not just in Kreuzberg. THC belongs to Berlin just like the Fernsehturm or the Döner, being a group of guys, born and raised in a Berlin of the 90s, influenced by Hip Hop music and the fast changing city. For the exhibition Almost Legal at Backyard, THC is exhibiting for the first time ever inside a room, all legal, a new experience for them and for us. To keep it underground they will premiere a video showing the work process of a piece, on the streets and barely legal. Cause may the rents go high and the streets go pretty, this is still Kreuzberg 36, right?! More about the group exhibition and the other artists taking part after the jump.
Australians just love Berlin. Christian Vance and Claire Morgan of Aussie record label Haul Music are the best examples. We talked with them about their fascination with Berlin and how the city compares to their respective homes in Down Under. Enjoy the interview after the jump and don’t miss their DJ sets on Saturday at the Goon of Fortune party at Backyard.
Coming Saturday the exhibition Early Days – Between Past and Decay takes off with a grand opening and afterparty at Backyard. The exhibition covers film and photography of Joi Bix, Joseph Wolfgang Ohlert, DT64 and Aghia Sophie. The four artists cover the subject of early days and past each in their own way. More about the exhibition after the jump.

This week there are once again plenty of events going on. We have two birthdays to celebrate: Voo and Merkezi. Also the Mindpirates are opening a very special salon for one month. And fans of Austra will be pleased to hear that various band members will be DJing at a few parties on the weekend. Have a look at our event listing after the jump.
I love scary things, so Halloween stands pretty much on the top of my list of favorite Holidays, even though it’s one of those American Holidays that only got imported to Germany for capitalistic reasons as many people claim. Well, I don’t give a dead rat’s ass about the reason, I’m glad it’s being celebrated here in Berlin and not only for children. My second photo set of Halloween parties in Berlin is the Last Days of Amy party at Backyard on Saturday. Disappointingly I didn’t see any Amy Winehouse costumes. Enjoy the set after the jump on 2 pages.

The Last Days parties have always been about wild dancing and big fun. David Hasselhoff, Charlie Sheen, Michael Jackson or Paris Hilton, there will always be fallen celebs to celebrate with both a funny and a tragic eye. Of course it is a bit more of a tragic one if it is about a dead person. This month’s Last Days Party is about Amy Winehouse, our big girl with an even bigger voice who came to a tragic end last year. Since Halloween falls on a weekday and Backyard has traditionally a Halloween party called Backyard Haunted House, Last Days of Amy is not only about Amy but also a Halloween party. Of course you can combine this and dress like a scary Amy or just as whatever you want to: it’s Halloween! However, Amys will be free of charge, of course. So sneak to your local beekeeper, steal that beehive, spray it black and put it on your head. Then try looking as thin and fucked up as possible and there you go! Another big girl is playing at Last Days of Amy: Dena, shooting star of the summer, her hit Cash, Diamond Rings, Swimming Pools became popular not least because of the video which was filmed on a flea market in Berlin. More on the party after the jump:
It’s Halloween this week and everybody is talking about what costume they will be wearing. Shame it’s right in the middle of the week, so a few parties have actually moved to the weekend. But still there is loads of scary stuff going on this Wednesday! This and other events after the jump.
The cosy place next to the Kreuzberg’s Prinzenbad became 2 years old and celebrates that with a big party on Saturday! There will be a special line up according to the event with music by Dirt Crew and Mobilee’s Berghain proved Hector as well as residents Engtanzkavalier and Suz on the Last Days floor. This is something not to be missed, because Backyard is going to prepare something special for sure and aims for absolutely nobody who is gonna leave the place without being totally wasted. More about the big birthday party below.
