The Grand Finale of the EcoSport Challenge

Time flies! I can’t believe it’s already been 6 weeks that have gone by since I was at the launch event of the EcoSport Challenge in Düsseldorf. At the time 8 enthusiastic teams drove off into the sunset with their brand new red Ford EcoSports and since then they have competed against each other in 6 different challenges. The challenges had the guys do some pretty funny and awkward things. They had to dress up as gorillas and buy bananas, make a crazy photoshoot, become shepherds, dance their asses off and make a battle of heroes. Now there is only 2 teams left and for the sixth and final challenge they had to do some good deeds. Now it’s up to the people voting, liking and sharing all their Instagrams, Tweets and videos and of course the challenge masters Alina from Frida Gold and Jan from Viva to give their final points. A Visit to the EcoSport Challenge Kick-Off in Düsseldorf

Exactly a week ago I traveled to Düsseldorf’s assigned by Ford to join the kick-off event of the EcoSport Challenge. I have never been to Düsseldorf before, so I was glad for the opportunity to get to know another German big city. Especially the area of the Media Harbor where the event took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel was quite interesting with lots of interesting pieces of architecture, the three buildings by star architect Gehry being the most amazing ones.

At the event all the 8 teams that will compete against each other in the coming weeks were introduced and I also got to meet the two hosts Alina from Frida Gold and Jan from VIVA. Both of them sat down with me to talk about Berlin, which is were they both live, as well as challenges and their upcoming projects. A little review and my interview after the jump.

A Private Rooftop Concert with Frida Gold

I’ve met Alina from Frida Gold so many times in different events and parties, but I never actually saw her perform live. The final event of the EcoSport Challenge that came to a close after 6 exciting weeks on the last weekend now finally gave me a chance. Now I totally understand why people are so enchanted with her as she is a great and charming live performer with a voice as soft as honey. In a small mini concert in a rooftop loft of the Nhow Hotel at the Spree she sang some of her famous songs for all the teams of the challenge making this a very sweet finale. Sometimes when I get asked about what you could do in Berlin in the summer and I have just given every imaginable advice about lakes, outdoor locations and open air parties I simply run out of suggestions. That’s the moment when I have to become creative, or simply a little silly… So instead of giving you sensible advice about summer activities today I give you a list of the most awkward and random things to do on a sunny weekend. Do me the Monkey

The EcoSport Challenge that we’ve introduced a few weeks ago is in full throttle right now with six remaining teams competing against each other in different tasks. But it’s not simply about fullfilling the tasks, but how creatively you document your efforts through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as well. The teams have already finished the first two challenges in the last couple of weeks and 2 teams of the original 8 have already been voted out. Now the remaining 6 are on the 3rd challenge. You can follow the follow the process of each team on the EcoSport Challenge website with all their photo uploads, tweets and little best of videos.

My favorite challenge so far was the first one where they had to dress up as a gorilla and invade a supermarket buying lots of bananas. It was pretty much an icebreaker for the contestants loosing all their countenance in favor of creating the most hilarious submissions. A little review of those you can see after the jump.

A Challenge for the Unusual

Shooting videos of special moments, blogging about our latest adventures and taking selfies with our friends – all these disciplines of the new social media have become a normal part of our lives, just like writing a diary, sending postcards and taking analog photos used to be in the olden days. But while our old photo albums and letters to friends were only interesting to those who were close to us, our Twitter feeds and Instagram channels are now consumed by a much bigger audiences. So our pictures and words are now in competition with those of others which means we are always trying to be more creative, surprising and unusual with the impressions we share…

The new Ford Ecosport Challenge is exactly about that: Being unusual and standing out and sharing it with the world. In the last couple of weeks Alina from the band Frida Gold and VIVA host Jan have become the spokespeople for the challenge and were looking for the most creative and unusual people who were willing to share their adventures during the competition with the world. And as luck has it they did find them!
