New Tales of Goldfrapp

New Tales of Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp – the most perfect band on earth – are back with a new album that will come out in the beginning of September and be called Tales of us, hurrah! They just released a very sexy and sensual short film that accompanies the first single titled Drew. The song reveals the new sound of the upcoming record and I am more than happy to hear that it’s a return to their more melancholic and orchestrated style of debut album Felt Mountain (my favorite) and their other dreamy longplayer Seventh Tree. After the jump you can enjoy the new video and a teaser for the album.

New Goldfrapp Song: Yellow Halo

Even though their last album Head First was not really my cup of tea, Goldfrapp still remains one of my all-time favorite bands with amazing songs such as Utopia, Strict Machine, Oh La La and A&E. In the beginning of Febuary 2012 they will release their first Best Of album summing up all their singles plus two brand new songs. One of them has been released a few days ago: the charming and dreamy Yellow Halo, with a video that was shot with an iPhone by director Lisa Gunning who also happens to be Alison Goldfrapp’s girlfriend. Have a look at it after the jump.

The Sexfluencers of Berlin: Meet 10 Influencers Fighting Censorship

The Sexfluencers of Berlin: Meet 10 Influencers Fighting Censorship

These ten women and men aren’t afraid to expose their naked bodies to fight against stigmas around sex, gender, and sexual orientation.

It’s a struggle for freedom of expression on a slippery slope. With their work these brave ten blur the lines of art, pornography, sex work, political activism, or what’s considered “professional” work. They face the dangers that come with the openly sexual nature of their work or digital persona. Their explicit representation on and offline is not a green card to sexual consent, what sounds like a no-brainer is something many people do not understand. “I’ve found myself in some very dangerous, and uncomfortable situations,” our cover model Sam Morris told Gay Times, “I have been sexually blackmailed, assaulted, verbally harassed, and raped. These situations have involved photographers, prolific magazine editors, and other gay men I’ve met along the way.” Physical harassment, slut-shaming, and tensions in personal relationships are something all of them have encountered but they found ways to deal with these situations. For erotic filmmaker and performer Anarella Martínez-Madrid, it’s as simple as this: “If being a slut means being able to enjoy your sexual life, and get to know yourself better, then I am a slut”.

Berlin’s Most Beautiful Men

Berlin’s Most Beautiful Men

photo: Hannes Gade

Berlin might not have a reputation for being the place where the most beautiful men reside, but that’s only because we have to wear coats seven months of the year. So Rio, you can officially pack your bags!  Since Berlin men are so open-minded, liberal, and often don’t even mind stripping it all down on social media, we now have visual proof: Berlin’s got it! And, Berlin got dem boys! So, while you might be alone in bed, possibly building prince charming out of pillows and blankets, or maybe you have a sadomasochistic moment and want to destroy your self-esteem, go ahead, and look at the following divine selection of Berlin specimen – And just imagine all the rest … That is awfully superficial, I am aware. But it just happens, you know. Suddenly, you find yourself staring at your screen. These men just upload too many well-lit photos. So, let’s all be honest with ourselves and indulge in this short, shallow moment of social media desire. Knowing, these men might wait just around the corner and not at the Copacabana. Enjoy…

MELT! I’m Coming!

goldfrapp_alive

Goldfrapp – Alive

The city is in a frenzy about the Fete de la Musique and everywhere you go you here music in the streets and people coming ang going to concerts and parties. As I am overloaded with work for the next .HBC Couture: Designer Scouts event I can’t really enjoy any of this. So all I can do is now hold on to the thought that after Fashion Week is over I will go to MELT! The past days I have been listening to quite a few albums of artists that will be playing there and that I’m totally excited to see. Amongst them Goldfrapp which I haven’t seen live in such a long time. My biggest highlight for sure is gonna be Kele. Just bought the album yesterday and I can’t get anough of this guy! But I’m also psyched to see Massive Attack, their song Psyche is just so amazing. Other acts I won’t miss are are Delphic and Bonaparte who have just released a brand new album. Check out the latest music videos of those mentioned acts as well as a MELT! trailer from the brand new Melt! TV. Btw: There are not so many tickets left and rumor has it they are holding back on one big act that has still been kept a secret…

Who is she?

iamamiwhoami

I wear colored contacts, fake eyelashes, a blond Lady Gaga wig, I am covered in black paint and my voice is distorted. Can you still guess who I am? Hint: I like to get dirrrrty…

It all started with a weird video clip of trees with arms and legs anonymously posted on YouTube about three months ago. In the end of that video you could see a blonde woman in some sort of naturalistic, dark womb. During the next weeks more videos where posted under the name IamAmIWhoami showing more of this strange woman with fake eyelashes covered in dirt. People started to speculate that this is some sort of viral campaign for an upcoming album release which it obviously is. The guesses which artist it might be ranged from big pop singers like Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga over cool semi-popular acts like Goldfrapp, The Knife and Santigold to smaller artists like Margaret Berger, Sia, Ladytron and Lykke Li. Just by looking at the videos it’s pretty obvious that it must be someone the record company spends a lot of money on. And judging from the music, it might sound dark and electronic, but it’s still so perfectly polished that it indicates to being parts or interludes of a pop record. I would consider it to be Goldfrapp if I hadn’t already heard their new album which is an 80s disco record and clearly not it. There are a lot of clues that point to Christina Aguilera (which you can read about here) and as she has a new album lined up I think she is the safest guess. I actually only like one of Aguilera’s albums which was her second: Stripped. It was quite brilliant and compared to the one before quite a change of style. So even if some people doubt it’s her because the mysterious videos are way too unconventional for a major pop artist like her I am pretty confident that she is IamAmiWhoami.

After the jump you’ll see all the videos in order of their surfacing. The animals that are shown towards the end of the video have been decrypted to point to a big revelation of the whole campaign this coming Monday 11am (Californian time, which means 20h here in Berlin). So stay tuned! I’m quite intrigued by the music you can here in the videos, especially the second one which sounds like vintage Goldfrapp glam rock!!

Journey to the 80s

goldfrapp-first-press-shot-small

Alison Goldfrapp once said she hated the 80s. Then I really wonder why the new Goldfrapp album Head First that will be released in March is full of mid and late 80s synth tunes. It really took me a while to get used to this as I’m not such a big fand of the 80s as well. My first reaction to the single Rocket that is already making the rounds on the interdolly was slight disappointment. But the song grew on me and now I find myself singing loadly on my way to the subway: “Ohoho, I got a rocket. Ohoho, you’re going on it.” More about the new album after the jump.
