How Are You?

 Kauf Dich Glücklich

If you are into retro-kitsch and lemonade you should have a seat at Kauf Dich Gluecklich. In this cosy cafe at Oderbergerstraße you can have your drink with a waffle or icecream on somebody’s grandma’s sofa and enjoy the kitschy atmosphere of this cute place. At the bar you can buy all sorts of vintage toys and accessories. Expecially in the summer this is a great place to hang out on a lazy afternoon. Read on for more images and details.

A Cake Success Story

Cherry Cheese Cake by Cynthia Barcomi

As you might have noticed we have a weakness for cake – especially if it is as rich and tasty as the cakes of Cynthia Barcomi. And I know a lot of people will agree on that. She has been baking cakes for her roastery Barcomi’s since 1994, and all those coffee lovers and cake addicts of Kreuzberg have helped to make it a great success.

Now, 14 years later, she not only runs a roastery in Kreuzberg but also a deli in the heart of Mitte. Last year her cakes even helped her to become popular outside of Berlin when she released her first and very own baking book in which she shares some of her special Barcomi’s recipes. We met the American in Berlin for a piece of carrot cake and a chat about Berlin, books and baking goods.

Cafe with a view

Cafe Shan Rahimkhan

This cafe must definitely be the one with the best view in town. There is no prettier sight than the Gendarmenmarkt while sipping a cup of coffee or maybe a glass of champagne, don’t you agree? The cafe Shan Rahimkhan belongs to one of Berlin’s most wanted celebrity hair stylists by the same name who also owns a fabulous hair salon and a fancy interior design store next door. It not only has a spectacular view to the outside but also a remarkably tasteful interior. We especially love the lamps that give the cafe a very unique and charming look. When you walk by in the evening they glow with so much warmth and style that you just have to go inside. Read on for more infos and images.

We heart Berlinomat

Berlinomat

Berlinomat has been one of our favorite stores in Berlin for several years now. Located a bit off the hotspots of Friedrichshain at Frankfurter Allee it is not a place you pass by everyday but still definately worth going to. It combines a fashion boutique, cafe, gift shop and show room in one place. The focus of the store is fashion made in Berlin. They represent a selection of Berlin’s hottest new designer talents and showcase the best designs from all of Berlin’s fashion schools. They have a good mix of affordable printed shirts and exquisite unique designs. Their range of gifts and accessories includes lamps, stationary, postcards, bags, shoes, design magazines and books, jewelery, sunglasses, interior design items and so much more. A lot of it is Berlin related so they make perfect souvenirs for design concious tourist. After the closing of teh East Berlin store in Kastanienallee this is another place were you can get the popular Berlin related fashion line. More fotos and details after the jump. Dinner at the Knorrpromenade

Kaspar+Hauser

The Knorrpromenade is a tiny little street close to Boxhagener Platz in Friedrichshain. For inhabitants of that area the street is well known for its special charm. It has these old front gates at the one side which makes it the appear to be the entrance to a magical old cemetery. But there are no graves at the other side but a very cosy nice restaurant. The Kaspar+Hauser has a welcoming terrace and cosy warm interiors. They offer a mixed menu from Wiener Schnitzel to pasta dishes and an extensive selection of wines. Prices are moderate and the menu changes every two weeks. We recommend the Wiener Schnitzel with Wasabi potatoe purée if they have it on the menu. More infos and images after the jump. We heart Torten

Petit fours

Olivia is a small shop that sells a wide range of exquisite chocolates, deliciouse torten, cakes and petit fours, as well as italian cookies and selected tea and coffee brands. We love the little mousse torten. The shop is quite busy at the weekends, but if you’re lucky enough you can get a free table outside and enjoy your cake with a nice coffee. More photos and infos after the jump. Read on – Weiterlesen »
