Interview: Listening to Music with MC Fitti

Interview: Listening to Music with MC Fitti

For about four years I have been interviewing musicians, artists and bands for iHeartBerlin. Of all the interviews I did, the upcoming one with MC Fitti is the most unusual and bizarre one I ever did. In other words: the interview is just like MC Fitti and his music. On the occasion of the release of his debut album #GEILO, I talked to the Berlin-based artist about music by Snoop Dogg, Rammstein, Village People, Cypress Hill and Michael Jackson. As MC Fitti’s style is really hard for me to translate, the interview is available only in the German version.

Even though the Norwegian city Bergen is not that big, it is an important center of European pop music; Kings of Convenience, Royksopp and The Whitest Boy Alive are the most famous examples. Another international succesful act from Erlend Øye’s hometown are Kakkmaddafakka. Their music spreads pure joy of living and is the perfect soundtrack for the summer, which hopefully started now. Kakkmaddafakka’s latest album Six Months Is A Long Time was produced by Erlend Øye and came out last week.

In our interview we have talked to Axel and Pål about music by Paul Simon, Gorgoroth, Village People, Dr. Dre, Abba and Michael Jackson. More after the jump.

Moulins: How to spend a great Day in the French Countryside

Moulins: How to spend a great Day in the French Countryside

The French countryside is pretty popular among tourists. Each year, the Provence, the Côte d’Azur and the Normandy are visited by thousands of visitors. This time, I explored another part of the French countryside: I went to Moulins in the Auvergne. The city is neither mentioned in the Lonely Planet nor in the Rough Guide – which is always a good sign, because it indicates that Moulins is still an insider’s tip. And indeed the city has much to offer: A spectacular Art Nouveau restaurant, France’s national costume museum, the bizarre villa of an excentric millionaire, a spa in a chapel – and superb Haute Cuisine. A great Berlin Movie: A Foreign Affair

There are many movies that are set in Berlin; a really great one that is quite unknown today is A Foreign Affair – a comedy from 1948 starring Marlene Dietrich, filmed right after the war in the bombed-out streets of Berlin. More after the jump.

Interview: Listening to Music with Westbam

Interview: Listening to Music with Westbam

There is actually no need to introduce Westbam. The Berlin-based DJ and producer is one of the world’s most important pioneers in Techno music. On the occasion of his 30th stage anniversary (!), he has now published a new album, which shows a whole new side of Westbam. Götterstrasse consists of 14 tracks and features collaborations with Lil Wayne, Iggy Pop, Kanye West, Inga Humpe and others.

In our interview with Westbam we talked about music by New Order, Sluts’ n Strings & 909, Rammstein and Jay-Z & Kanye West. More after the jump.

Win Tickets to Watergate’s Diynamic Open Air

Berlin is supposed to be the capital of electronic music. However, some of the most interesting German DJs and producers are actually not based in Berlin, but in Hamburg. I am of course talking about the Diynamic crew, about artists such as Solomun, H.O.S.H., Stimming, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and David August. All of them will be playing at the Watergate Open Air next Saturday. If you have ever seen Solomon or Kollektiv Turmstrasse live, you know that this is a party not to be missed. We are giving away two tickets after the jump.

Music that evokes carefree, endless Californian summer days – what more can you wish for? That is exactly what the band Big Deal sounds like.
