A Fashionable Car Revealed at Berlin Fashion Week

A Fashionable Car Revealed at Berlin Fashion Week

What happens when a car is designed not by an automobile designer but by a fashion stylist? You will find out this week during Berlin Fashion Week…

It makes a lot of sense. The sophisticated individualists of today expect a certain level of style from every product they surround themselves with. It doesn’t stop at fashion, interior design and consumer electronics. It’s only natural that they desire their cars to match their aesthetics as well. The smart BRABUS tailor made program is the clever answer to this as it gives customers the chance to design the slick city car in the colors and with the features they wish.

A great way to express your identity to the outside world is definitely clothing. Welcome to the Fashion Circus

Welcome to the Fashion Circus

Calling the world of fashion a circus if actually not at all farfetched. When you walk into the arena with your outfit on fleek it’s all about the ohs and wows, making an impression that lingers longer than a brief glance, surprising the unsurprisable and in the best case make the people smile. Yes, if a design manages people to feel something, regardless what, it has fulfilled an important purpose. It’s here where fashion transcends what is beautiful to something more meaningful. And that’s glory of it.

A while ago I met up with Hungry, a Berlin character so mesmerizing and iconic that s/he has become a fashion statement her/himself. Together we created this photo series for you guys to draw your attention to the Vogue Fashion Night Out special “Night Circus” at Bikini Berlin that happened in September 2016 and turned the whole place into a fashion circus extravaganza full of surprises and special guests such as star photographer Joachim Baldauf, the rising star of Berlin fashion Marina Hoermanseder and tattoo queen Myra Brodsky.

But in the course of our little photo shoot we realized we interfered much more with our surroundings than we anticipated…

The Bread&Butter has quite a long and diverse history. It started off in Cologne in 2003, but then moved to Berlin and later Barcelona for a while where it rose to international fame, before returning to Berlin to become one of the major events of Berlin Fashion Week. But as many of you have probably noticed it stopped happening a couple of seasons ago. But this was not the end, it was a necessary period of transition and reinvention. Now it’s back, rising like a phoenix from the ashes and everything is different! What happened? And why should we care? Here’s the break-down..

Greek Lifestyle in Berlin

Greek Lifestyle in Berlin

Sarah P, photo: Fotini Chora

As mundane as it may sound, Berlin is the very definition of a melting pot. It has always reminded me of an immense theater stage, where all countries take their position and as soon as the lights start to dim, they begin interacting with each other; they fight, they love, they live, but most of all they constantly try to make their stories get heard as loud as possible. There is one thing they have always in common: they are fully in sync with their multicultural environment and in the case of Greece miles away from the picture drawn by Nia Vardalos’ Big Fat – filled with stereotypes, yet utterly entertaining – Greek Wedding.

Several Greek places around the world – cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, concerts etc. – have always made me feel like Alice in Wonderland, but to a more twisted and disturbing extent than Lewis Carroll’s bizarre universe. It is mostly the image of people being lost in their Greek microcosm, fully ignorant of the overwhelming benefits life abroad has to offer, that brings discontent to me. And it is then, when you realize that for some coming from the same place has developed into the one and only criterion of socializing with people.

However, this story is about those who have become citizens of the world and their Greek identity represents a part of it and not vice versa. Here a few examples of Greek businesses and artists active in Berlin who choose to work and live through the aforementioned identity.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in Berlin

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in Berlin

Today we want to share a charming little video and photo set with you that is the result of a collaboration of Instagrammer Franz Becker and photographer Lisa Müller. It portraits two girls swirling around in Berlin having a good time and looking quite fabulous at it. We totally adore the combination of the rough urban charm of Berlin and the cute fashionable girls. Speaking of which: The girls are wearing the pieces of the joyful festival-inspired fashion label Lone Rascal. But see for yourself after the jump.

Culinary Wonders of Berlin

Culinary Wonders of Berlin

Berlin never seizes to surprise me with new amazing things. In a city so full of cultural influences, new ideas, an ever changing population, and so much diversity it’s practically impossible to know it all. So whenever you go out you will likely learn something new.

This is exactly what happened to me at the Fashion Kitchen event of Priceless® Berlin. The event hosted by MasterCard during Berlin Fashion Week brought together the genres of food and fashion with a colorful program including a live cooking and flying buffet by two all-round talents and Priceless Berlin Partners – celebrity chef Kolja Kleeberg and star coiffeur Shan Rahimkhan – and a fashion show of Berlin-based design favorite Michael Sontag who presented his brand new collection. But even though these two elements were already big highlights there was quite a bit more going on. So let me tell you a bit more about these culinary wonders of the Priceless Berlin world that I discovered at the event…

Street Portraits: The Style of Berliners

Street Portraits: The Style of Berliners

photos: Katja Hentschel

There was a time when street style was totally a thing. Every major city had a street style blog (or many) and of course also Berlin. But the trend had faded over the years a bit and many blogs stopped posting or changed their editorial concepts. Thanks to Instagram and success projects such as Humans of New York (and other cities that followed) street portraits totally had a comeback!

Glamcanyon used to be one of the major street style blogs (and to me personally the most beautiful one) in the early days of fashion blogs in Germany, but the flow of new styles dried up a bit a few years ago. Back then the blogger behind it, photographer Katja Hentschel, shifted her focus to other projects such as her follow-up blogs Travelettes and Glowbus. But a few months ago her passion for street portraits came back to life and she decided to revitalize Glamcanyon. Now you can again regularly find her beautiful photos of beautiful people from Berlin and other cities that she comes to. But with the new photos you can see how the eye of the photographer has developed over the years. Now it’s not anymore purely about the looks, it’s also about the personality of the portrayed person and the moment they had with the photographer. Absolutely charming! We selected some of our favorites from Berlin for you today.

Fashion Special: Berlin loves Nordic Fashion

Fashion Special: Berlin loves Nordic Fashion

Liisa Riski, Finland

When it comes to fashion the Germans are a bit unusual. The Italians, they proudly love their Italian fashion. The French love to wear the designs from the runways of Paris. And the British, they admire their traditional British brands. But the Germans, they prefer something other than their own labels: The Germans turn their heads to the Nordic countries for style. And it’s basically been like that since I can remember. Germans, and also in particular the Berliners, are just obsessed with fashion from Sweden, Denmark & co. While that is on the one hand quite sad for the German brands that nowadays avoid the local Fashion Week and rather show their collections on foreign runways, it’s a total win for the Scandinavians who – for us – seem to be the essence of style.

The Nordic Fashion Hub that takes place at Bikini Berlin Concept Shopping Mall from June 28th til July 2nd 2016 is now bringing us some more of this coveted design from our European neighbors. In a temporary fashion exhibition in the ground floor of the mall you will be able to see the new collections of 15 labels from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland. The selection really shows the bandwidth of Nordic design that ranges from their signature minimalism over classic feminine looks to bold and eccentric designs. After the jump we want to show you a preview of the participating labels and of the exhibition at Bikini Berlin. Come by tonight at 19h for the opening reception or visit the Nordic Fashion Hub on the following days.
