Magenta Moon: Dive Into Another World with this Immersive Digital Experience

When I look outside the window right now, all I can think about is just getting out of here. But of course, flying to a more beautiful place is not always an option. But what I experienced at my visit to the new Magenta Moon pop-up experience by Deutsche Telekom, comes actually pretty close.

The “Moon Garden” is a pretty cutting-edge immersive and interactive experience and the centerpiece of the new Magenta Moon Campus that is happening from now until November 1st at Leipziger Platz in Berlin and online with various workshops and talks. Imagine walking into a room that brings you to a completely new world, stimulating your senses and offering you a place to relax, to play, to explore. It sounds like a dream right now – doesn’t it?

The Ball of Superheroes: A Special Voguing Event for a Good Cause

Do you miss experiencing and cheering at a proper Voguing Ball as much as I do? There have been many cancellations in the Berlin ballroom scene, but the Charity Voguing Ball of Superheroes does it differently! The ball is hosted by David from the Kiki House of Angels and European Father of the House of Milan and will be brought to you guys as a shared experience with drinks and snacks to enjoy together with fellow ballroom fans as a Livestream screened at Neuzeit Ost followed by a secret queer movie screening.

You’ve never been to a voguing ball? Then this is the perfect event to get to know the heart of it. Our author Valerie explains the Voguing scene in more detail here. To get a visual taster you should check out our colorful animated photo sets from last year’s Pride Ball and Ocean Ball that should give you an impression of what a Voguing Ball feels like. Poetry for the Planet: The 21st poesiefestival Berlin Goes Online

Poetry for the Planet: The 21st poesiefestival Berlin Goes Online

From June 5th to June 11th, Berlin’s poesiefestival will take place already for the 21st time. Instead of canceling or postponing the event due to the lockdown, the organizers went to great lengths to make it happen virtually. And we can all feel lucky that they did, as this festival is a must for everyone with an appreciation for words and a curiosity for foreign languages and cultures.

The poesiefestival Berlin has been a constant source of inspiration for Berlin’s literary landscape since 2000. This year, its organizers were forced to restructure the program, but many event formats known from previous editions are still going to take place, including the opening event Weltklang – Night of Poetry (featuring an international array of poets performing in their native languages), as well as the translation workshop VERSschmuggel/reVERSible.

These Queer Berlin Entertainers Are Streaming Live into Your Living Rooms

These Queer Berlin Entertainers Are Streaming Live into Your Living Rooms

While everyone and their mom are currently on voluntary house arrest (you better be!) we’re already running out of ideas what to do at home. It’s not that there isn’t an endless list of possible chores we could finally get to now that we really have no more excuses left anymore. But honestly, we’re close to losing our mind, so clearly now is not the time for chores…

It’s just been a week or two depending on when you started, but somehow now, time decided to pass really slowly right now, so we’re filled with nostalgia of better days and a real sense of withdrawal from all our usual activities and adventures in Berlin’s bars, stages and clubs.

While the club scene has successfully transitioned into the digital space with their United We Stream, we’re missing all the fun cultural entertainment from our favorite queer darlings from the world of comedy, drag, performance, and voguing. But luckily, those bitches ain’t sleeping, within a week many of them have come up with streaming alternatives to their regular shows and we are HERE FOR IT! This way we won’t miss the cute Darvish, the hilarious Daniel-Ryan, the fantastic Venus Boys and many more…

The Best Upcoming Live Stream Events from Berlin

The Best Upcoming Live Stream Events from Berlin

photo: Artem Gavrysh.

With the current quarantine in place, Berlin culture makers have to get creative for the coming weeks. It didn’t take long before those who are used to live events decided to explore the potential of live streaming. The Hebbel theater, various clubs led by the Clubcommission Berlin, musicians who had to cancel their concerts, as well as local performance artists were the first ones to re-organize themselves and offer live stream versions of their planned programming. I think it’s certainly a great alternative to stay connected with the cultural scene of Berlin instead of just mindlessly binge-watching things on Netflix.

We will use our event calendar in the coming weeks to present to you some of the most interesting live streams coming from Berlin, including DJ sets, performances, concerts, workshops, comedy shows and so much more. We hope this will keep you entertained at night.

The Highlights of the Festival of Lights 2019

The Highlights of the Festival of Lights 2019

The Festival of Lights amazes me once more with how it manages to mobilize such a huge amount of Berliners to come out of the house at night to explore the city. If you walk along any of the trails of the festival you will encounter so many other people walking around discovering the many light art projections all over the city it feels like the night becomes day – and a busy one at that.

Until October 20th, 2019, every night from 19-23h you will be able to discover countless projections – many also animated with elaborate mappings that embrace the architecture and details – at various buildings in the city such as the TV tower, the Humboldt Forum, the Berliner Dom, several buildings around Bebelplatz, the Brandenburger Gate, the high rises at Potsdamer Platz, etc.

This year’s highlight was for sure the show at Brandenburger Gate about the 30th anniversary of the Fall of the Wall. Also, the newly opened James-Simon-Gallery at Museumsisland has a particularly stunning projection that beautifully reflects in the water. Now enjoy some impressions of this year’s Festival of Lights.

Join the Fearless Fitness Experience with Marathon Icon Kathrine Switzer

The big Berlin Marathon is upon us later this week and as a special treat, Airbnb has invited the international marathon icon Kathrine Switzer to Berlin for a Fearless Fitness Experience that you can participate in now!

Switzer has become famous as the first official female runner in the Boston Marathon back in 1967. Until that time it was an unwritten rule that women could not participate in marathons because they were physically not capable of it. That was until Switzer broke the rules and took part in the 67’s marathon anyway as part of a team with two guys. While most other men in the race were impressed by Switzer it was the race director Jock Semple that ran after her and tried to stop her, only to be pushed off the race track by Switzer’s boyfriend and athlete Tom Miller.
